About Us
Southport Church of Christ is located on the beautiful Gold Coast, Australia. We are affiliated with Churches of Christ in Australia; a collection of Christian churches who share a similar desire for fresh church expressions, based on a biblical foundation. Our desire is to spread the great news of God’s love and grace in a diverse range of meaningful and contemporary ways.
Southport Church of Christ began on the Gold Coast in 1957 and has developed into an impactive local church. We are an autonomous (self governing) church, affiliated with ‘Churches of Christ in Australia’, who trace their history back to the 1830’s where Christians in Britain and the USA were seeking the restoration of New Testament Christianity. They never saw themselves as commencing a denomination but, rather, thought of themselves as being part of the ‘Restoration Movement’, known as ‘people of the Bible’. At Southport Church of Christ, we still commit ourselves to practising the basics of New Testament Christianity.
We have 350-450 people attend our Sunday morning service, and approximately 200 attend our evening service. We also engage our church and wider community through a range of ministries and activities that take place throughout the week. We are led by six pastors in addition to support staff, overseen by a governing team, and assisted by our volunteers. We strongly believe in ‘every member ministry’, have a strong focus on discipleship, and believe that the future of the church depends on individuals growing in faith in Jesus and reaching out to our community in a relevant and genuine way.

To build a mission-centred, disciple-making church, incarnating Christ, beginning at Southport, then across the northern Gold Coast as a network of diverse, fresh Christian community expressions, impacting the world.

What we believe
∙ The Bible is the inspired word of God and the supreme and final authority in faith and life.
∙ Belief in one God eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
∙ That Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, is true God and true man.
∙ That man was created in the image of God; that he sinned; and thereby incurred not only physical death; but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, being sinners in thought, word, and deed.
∙ That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.
∙ In the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension to heaven, in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.
∙ In the personal, imminent return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to receive His Church and to judge the world.
∙ That all who come to repentance of sin, and faith in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, are born again of the Holy Spirit and baptised by the Holy Spirit into the body of Christ, thereby becoming children of God.
∙ In the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting condemnation of the lost.
∙ That Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the two ordinances given by Jesus Christ to be practised by his church.
